How to Choose the Right Faucet for Your Bathroom or Kitchen

A few simple checks on type, finish and fittings will help you pick a mixer that suits your sink and lasts.
A faucet is used many times every day, so it is worth choosing it with care. These general points can help you decide.
Start with the sink. Look at how many holes your basin or countertop has and how far apart they are. A single-lever mixer needs one hole, while separate hot and cold taps need two or three. Measuring first saves you from buying a model that does not fit.
Think about the height. A tall mixer suits a bowl-style basin that sits on top of the counter, while a short one suits a standard built-in basin. Make sure the spout reaches over the drain so water does not run onto the edge.
Check the finish and the body. Chrome is the most common finish and is easy to wipe clean. A solid brass body is generally more durable than lighter alloys, and a ceramic cartridge inside the mixer helps it stay smooth and drip-free for longer.
Look at the connections. Most mixers connect with flexible hoses to the hot and cold supply. Check the hose length and the thread size of your supply points before you order, and keep the original packaging in case an adjustment is needed.
